When a hospital needs a duty doctor, the person shortlisting reads many resumes quickly. The ones that get a call show the degree, the registration and the kind of duty the doctor has done, all on the first page. Below is what to put in a doctor’s resume and in what order, with a format you can copy.
It works for MBBS, BAMS and BHMS doctors, whether you are applying for your first job after internship or moving hospitals after years of practice.
What a Doctor’s Resume Should Include
- Contact details. Full name, phone and WhatsApp number, email, and the city you live in.
- Registration. Your registration number, the council or board that issued it, and the year. Hospitals look for this first.
- Qualifications. Degree, college, university and year, internship, and any postgraduate degree or diploma.
- Clinical experience. For each job, the hospital or clinic, your title (duty doctor, RMO, casualty medical officer), the dates, and what you handled: outpatients, emergencies, ICU, night duty.
- Skills and certifications. Procedures you are comfortable with, and life support courses such as BLS or ACLS if you hold them.
- Languages. The languages you can speak with patients in.
- Availability. Day, night or 24-hour duty, how soon you can join, and whether you will relocate.
Format Tips
- Keep it to two pages. Put registration and your latest experience on the first.
- List experience with the most recent job first.
- Write dates as month and year, so a gap is easy to explain instead of guess at.
- Send it as a PDF named with your name and degree, for example yourname-mbbs.pdf.
- Check the phone number twice. A resume with a wrong number never gets the call.

Mistakes That Cost Interviews
- Leaving out the registration number, which most hospitals ask for before anything else.
- Listing jobs without dates, or with only the year.
- Opening with a long objective paragraph instead of your degree and experience.
- Not saying which shifts you will take, when the vacancy is for night duty.
- An old phone number or an email address that is hard to read out.
